Sale Agreement - Registration

Buyer wants to go for a bank loan and bank wants a registered sale agreement. Is it necessary for the seller and buyer to be present at the Sub-registrar office and sign in front of the Sub-registrar? Can that buyer and seller sign the agreement at their own place and later buyer take it to Sub-registrar office and get it registered? Is it possible? Place : Coimbatore
