Legal validity of Kitchen Gardening in residential layout (converted from agricu

Dear sir/madam, I live in a residential layout (villa society) in Bangalore. A few of the residents here including me are involved in Kitchen gardening in the left over lands. The entire layout is converted from agricultural land and BMRDA approved. The managing committee of the society has put a ban on this saying as per govt. rule these kitchen gardens are illegal on residential land. Residential should only be used for building residence. They are in fact terming it as farming! In the kitchen gardens, we are growing vegetables for daily usage. The MC is even threatening to uproot all the vegetables! Are we doing something illegal? I'm looking forward to your expert opinion.
