Given contract to builder to construct duplex on my land. He is asking for GST

I purchased a land on my name and given contract for constructing duplex to a firm. final rate of construction was negotiated and mentioned in the agreement. After completion of approx. 90 % of house builder is asking for 5 % GST from me. Need to know--- 1) Weather GST will be applicable for me or for builder. 2) Inspite of giving contract for house building , if I construct house on my land then weather GST is applicable for me. 3) If GST is applicable then can I pay amount directly to Government in place of Paying it to builder.

In general, for the transaction between you and the builder, GST will be applicable on you and not the builder. And no, you cannot pay GST directly to the government, you'll have to pay to the builder only.

Now, whether you are liable to pay GST or not depends on the terms as mentioned in the agreement. For any further discussions or clarifications, you may reach out at advakshaylal@gmail.com.
