A private firm had sought intervention after his bid was rejected during the tender process adopted for outsourcing supply of diet (dry and cooked) to the district headquarters hospital in Sambalpur.While dismissing the private firm’s petition, the bench said the power of judicial review will not be permitted to be invoked to protect private interest at the cost of public interest, or to decide contractual disputes. The tenderer or contractor with a grievance can always seek damages in a civil court.

Direct evidence of this danger can be seen in the order of the Andhra Pradesh High Court prohibiting all publication of news relating to a case pertaining to the registration of an FIR against the former Advocate-General of Andhra Pradesh and a few others in relation to possibly irregular land purchases in Amaravati. A blanket bar on all media reporting in print and electronic media, including social media, can scarcely ever be the right thing to do unless there are extremely compelling circumstances. But if courts act outside the law to reach the “right result”, orders of this nature may become commonplace.

SC terms ‘frivolous’ PIL on rising suicides in IITs, imposes fine on lawyer

The top court said the government was alive to the situation and dismissed the public interest litigation (PIL) filed by lawyer Gaurav Bansal on the issue of suicides in IITs across the country.“This is an utterly frivolous petition. Tell us how much cost we should impose on you,” a bench headed by Justice R.F. Nariman said in the hearing conducted through video conferencing.

Allahabad High Court Junks Plea To Rename Itself As Prayagraj High Court

A Lucknow bench of the high court dismissed the lawsuit, filed in the form of a Public Interest Litigation, terming it as a "publicity stunt litigation". The petitioner had raised the plea to rename the high court on the ground that the state government rechristened Allahabad district as Prayagraj on October 16, 2018.
