Notice period

I joined in a company in 2017 and as per my appointment letter my notice period is one month. In Aug 2018 i received an email from HR mentioning as below "In furtherance to the Appointment Letter issued, we would like to inform you that there is an amendment with reference to clause 5.1 that your notice period has been extended for 2 months instead 1 month as per the notification received from the client. If this notice period is not served for any reasons, you will be bound to make the loss suffered by the company and any other charges/liabilities Company/Client incurs. Thanks for your Co-operation" I replied and mentioned that i am not accepting it and i will server one month notice as per my appointment letter. Now in Jan 2021 i resigned and still company is telling i need to serve two months as notice. How come this is possible ? They are telling we have already sent a notification on this which is what i mentioned earlier. Is it possible for them to force me to even when i not accepted that ?
